Cambria Cat Club Show 2009

Dr. Peter Collin with the overall BIS exhibitShow Report

The 25th Cambria Annual Cat Club Show was held at Thornbury Leisure Centre, after a break of two years! We moved out of Wales as we were unable to find a suitable venue, and Thornbury was not only close to the Welsh border but also a popular and familiar venue for exhibitors and spectators alike. As many of you will be aware, the Newport Leisure Centre is not currently suitable for our show. Friday the 9th October was ‘ D’ day, and the committee and the newly appointed show management team - John and Elaine Robinson and Lisa Talboys -  all  began the preparations for our 25th Anniversary Show.  At this stage, we must say a big “thank you” to everyone who helped to get the hall ready – all ‘hands’ were gratefully accepted.  By six o’clock that evening the hall was ready - decked with Welsh flags - and the tables and penning were decked with Red, Green and White.  The rosettes and Best in Show pens were in matching colours and our old Cambria Banner was resurrected to greet the Exhibitors. Bright and early on Saturday morning we arrived, all knowing what roles we had to play. Three of the committee – Charis, Claire & Lyn - had their day filled with Judging, and Angela took her role as Duty Vet’s assistant.  It was lovely to see our President George Marshall continuing in his role as Head Vet.  Sandra and her helpers manned the Welsh Raffle table with two £50.00 prizes and a wide variety of other prizes.   The raffle went down a treat and raised a truly remarkable figure. Linda spent all day manning the Rosettes. Ken kept all the monies in order as well as helping on the gate and Jackie, Yve and Ann brought back the Welfare Fund fabulous Chocolate Raffle, as well as doing ‘meet and greet’ on the door.  The Management team did a sterling job of making the exhibitors feel welcome.  Each exhibitor went home with a Snowdonia Welsh cheese and there were many goodies and spot prizes being given out throughout the day to exhibitors, Judges and Stewards.  As is usual at the shows hosted by John, he had worked hard to get lots of “freebies” for the exhibitors which were welcomed.  You needed a suitcase to take the winnings from the Best of Variety pens away – thanks, John.  The Rosettes were very popular too and Lisa had excelled herself at matching the Cambria Colours (another nice touch) for the individual rosettes given to each judge to award to a cat of their choice.
As well as the exhibitors, it was lovely to see the wide variety of stalls in the main hall; this is a great facility as so often nowadays, there is no suitable area to go while judging is conducted.  There was even a seated area, as well as some catering, which seemed to be popular with exhibitors and visitors. All in all it was a great day and the Committee was delighted to see so many happy faces, and to welcome loyal supporters and newcomers alike.  It was a great success and judging by the comments and the many letters received, everyone is of the same mind.  We would like to end this report by thanking everyone for attending the Cambria Annual Cat Club show and we also send a big thank you to all the people who made it possible; especially all those helpers in the background because without you, this show would not have been possible.  Now all we have to do is start the ball rolling for 2010 and try to live up to what we have achieved for this great 2009 show.

Long live the Cambria!!
